The First Presidency has officially announced the location of the site for the Indianapolis Indiana Temple as the southwest corner of W 116th Street and Spring Mill Road in Carmel, Indiana, a suburb just north of Indianapolis. President Thomas S. Monson announced the construction of the temple in General Conference last October. Please follow the links below for additional information.

The Indianapolis, Indiana temple will be located in Carmel, Indiana!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Sunday I was privileged to meet with our Area Authority 70, Elder Lansing, and the other stake presidents in Indiana. We learned the following about the new Indianapolis Indiana Temple:

It will be located in Carmel. The property has been identified, the purchase price agreed but the sale has not yet closed, so they will not disclose the exact location at this time.

It is anticipated to be 50% larger than the Louisville Temple, near the scale of the recently-dedicated Gila Valley Temple in Arizona.

It takes about three years from property purchase to temple dedication, so this might be anticipated in the Fall of 2013.

Groundbreaking ceremonies typically occur one year from property purchase, so anticipate this in Fall of 2011.

There are anticipated to be only three dedicatory sessions, with attendance by special invitation. All members will be invited to attend a closed-circuit broadcast in their meetinghouses. This will be for all baptized members 8 years and older who receive a special recommend from their bishop or branch president.

With this wonderful news, we feel blessed that the Lord sees Indiana Saints as a temple-worthy people, ready to sustain the work that will proceed in a House of the Lord. Our focus as individuals and families should now be to fulfill this expectation of our Father and His Son by becoming and remaining temple-worthy and engaging in preparation of names for temple work by indexing or direct ancestor research.

I bear you my testimony that the Savior Jesus Christ lives and that He will be in His temple in Indiana. Let us all prepare to come and rejoice in obtaining the blessings of the temple in our collective very near future.

“For Charles Clark, who lives in Noblesville, Ind., and is a member of the Muncie Indiana Stake, the announcement of the Indianapolis temple was a pleasant surprise for members in his area.

“We’ve been hoping for this for a long time, ever since the announcement of small temples,” said Clark, who currently serves as second counselor in the Columbus Ohio Temple, some 175 miles from his home.

“We drive over, stay in a motel for a few nights and then come back after our term of service for the week,” he said.”

“President Thomas S. Monson announced Indiana’s first temple in the Saturday morning session of the 180th Semiannual General Conference. The temple will be located in the area of Indianapolis where three of Indiana’s eleven stakes are headquartered. The Saints of Indianapolis currently travel some 130 miles to the Louisville Kentucky Temple in Crestwood, Kentucky, to participate in the Church’s highest ordinances.”

INDIANAPOLIS — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to build a temple in Indianapolis. The facility would be the Mormons’ first temple in Indiana.

A local church leader said Mormons were gratified to hear the announcement.

“It’s just a marvelous opportunity because what it really says is members of our church have prepared themselves to work and to serve,” said Paul Sinclair, Zionsville, who fills an office known as a stake president.

The church has not released any details on a prospective Indianapolis site.
